Slightly embarrased...

I actually read the mail about being in sys.sys to use shared libs, changed
my gid in passwd to 0, and everything works.

I tried recompiling (with makeall), logged into the other console and typed
"ps -a" (no idea if -a is valid for this ps), and the machine rebooted.
I'll be more gentle next time...
