VSTa v1.2 available

Version 1.2 of VSTa is available at ftp.cisco.com:vandys/vsta. This version
includes the addition of an Adaptec 1542b/c SCSI disk driver, a COM1/2
serial port driver (plus enhancements to login so you can log in as another
user over it), process debugging (kernel support, plus the simple debugger
"adb"), and (as always) bug fixes.

The DJGPP C compiler environment has changed again. The latest version has
apparently switched to COFF executable format, which is completely
incompatible with a.out. Thus, cross-compilation options are either to use an
older DJGPP (shall I put my copy up on FTP?) or to cross compile from Linux or
FreeBSD using the patches from rob@cygnus.com.

I used DJGPP because at the time it was stable and it appeared that it would
save me time. It has now become a liability, so I think it's time to move
on. I will be shooting for the next release to support self-hosted compiles
as the preferred method of building from source. Such a change requires a
port of RCS to VSTa, some tedious file crunching to get rid of those stupid
DOS line endings (\r\n), and probably some bug fixes to make it work well.

For now, let's limp along for one more release. Please let me know if a
copy of DJGPP would help.
