I'm fascinated by a package called asmutils which includes a libc, most
fundamental /bin utils, and rc6 hashing.
The libc and everything built with it, with the exception of the crypto
stuff, all fit happily within a single 4k l1 cache segment apiece.
I haven't put these through their paces yet but I muse that shell scripts
writtin with asm utils averaging 200+ bytes apiece could possibly compete
with compiled scripts written on C foundations.
These tools also exhibit bad user feedback manners, however, if there be
room for improvement in x86 vsta distributions with speed and size in mind,
perhaps its not out of the question to add a -help and -version to the
spartan asmutils if they meet the desired featuresets in other areas.

Subject: Miscellaneous comments and questions
I've noticed that alot of VSTa's binaries and commands provide very little
feedback as to their proper use or errors encountered while runnig. Some of
the feedback is downright unhelpful. I was just wondering if this was done
deliberately to keep the size of VSTa down to a minimum. Is size a
spoken/unspoken goal in VSTa? Are there any set goals for VSTa at the
moment?
